Stuart Mackler, MD

Dr. Mackler is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who lived and practiced in Radford, Virginia from 1973 to 1990. He received his training at the Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, in general surgery and in orthopedic surgery with a hand surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville.
Dr. Mackler served in the United States Public Health Service and was stationed at the USPHS Hospital in Carville, Louisiana. He then served as senior medical officer for Coast Guard Operation Market Time in Vietnam.
He was deployed to the US Virgin Islands after hurricane Hugo. He spent a month in Haiti following the devastating earthquake in January 2010. He founded and directed the American Humanitarian Initiative, a 501(c)(3) formed to fabricate prosthetics for victims of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. He served as the orthopedic consultant for Operation Smile.
Dr. Mackler was appointed to the Virginia State Board of Medicine, was elected its president and represented Virginia on the national Federation of State Medical Boards. He served on the Board of Directors of the Medical Society of Virginia and as a member of its Nominating Committee.
